Adventure Trip 1: Malaysia (Day 1)

August 27, 2011

On the day we will depart to Kuala Lumpur, it was raining so hard in Manila partly due to the storm "Mina" (which is fortunately not directly affecting Manila), but good thing our flight went through as planned.

It's raining outside
While on the flight, the flight attendants had this sort of a "raffle draw", and guess what? We almost won, because the 2 of the winners are seated at the front and at the back of us, hehe.

After over three hours of travel, we finally landed in Malaysia, particularly at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. There are so many people arriving at the terminal, so we spent longer at the immigration line, with only 6 immigration officers there.

The long line at the immigration
After going past the immigration and getting our bags, we met my sister's boyfriend to meet us up. Then we take a bus going to the Kuala Lumpur proper, particularly at KL Sentral, that took an hour. While traveling, I was amazed with the expressways there (it's so long and it's a network of expressways, i think).

After an hour of travelling, we arrived at KL Sentral, and took a cab to Sungei Wang Hotel at Bukit Bintang. Unlike Manila, the roads in Kuala Lumpur are narrow, that is why we took a while before we reached the hotel. Just a tip when you are in Kuala Lumpur, especially if you take a cab: you need to have it metered and not via contract.

After taking our bags in our hotel room, we took a snack at Fisherman's Cove inside Mariott Hotel. Surprisingly, the snacks there are so affordable that each order costs RM 3.60 (or roughly P51). We ordered carbonara, beef satay, potato wedges, and calamari. At least our tummies are filled with these foods we ordered.

The snacks are so affordable!

After our snack, we proceed to St. John's Cathedral to attend the anticipated mass scheduled at 6:30 PM. It's the only Catholic Church located in Kuala Lumpur (as we all know, Malaysia is a dominant Muslim country), and we were able to attend a mass here in KL. Only a few people of different nationalities attended the mass, but according to our companion, many Filipinos attend the mass every Sunday and there are so many vendors just outside the church.

After attending the mass, we went to Kuala Lumpur City Centre to have a photo op at the Petronas Twin Towers during night time. It's nice taking some photos with the twin towers at the backdrop. As expected, so many people taking photos and we also met a few Filipinos there.

After a few minutes, we went to back to Bukit Bintang, particularly at the row of Chinese restaurants (see John Lloyd Cruz' and Bea Alonzo's movie, "Miss You Like Crazy") and ate at Cu Cha Restaurant (I also love Chinese food).

Beef Satay

Fish (I forgot the dish)

Shrimp with egg (I also forgot the dish name, hehe)

Well, it's just the first day of my Malaysia trip, and I'm looking forward for the next day. I am happy to be in a foreign trip and I'm enjoying it!
